Teachers Time launches Online Course on Special Education
A 2-month Certificate Course on Special Education is launched online by Teachers Time this week. The course will begin on December 18th 2020. It will be conducted by Prof. Nazmul Haq, Director TDI and Professor, IER, Dhaka University.
This will be the first online course on Special Education in Bangladesh. The course focuses on parents with special children and teachers working with special children. After a successful first batch of Effective Teaching course, TDI and LoH decided to focus on special and inclusive education.
‘All the schools are closed now. Children with special need and their families are facing the most difficult situation. But if parents can be educated on this topic, it will help the families. We are already reaching out to organizations and schools in Bangladesh that are running special education programs. So that they can use this opportunity to skill up their human resources.’ – said Waliullah Bhuiyan, CEO of Light of Hope Ltd.
‘I used to run regular training on special and inclusive education before COVID-19 in my center. But COVID-19 gave me the opportunity to come online and provide my expertise.’ – Prof. Nazmul Haq, Director of TDI mentioned.
A greater need
Only 11% of children with disabilities get any form of education in Bangladesh – that includes both physical and mental disabilities. Despite the growing need for special and inclusive education, there are only a few handfuls of institutions working mostly in Dhaka. Trained and qualified human resource to manage such schools is the biggest barrier. With online courses offered on Special Education, the institutions can easily skill up their resource. Even individuals interested to start their career in special education can get a quality learning opportunity.
Make it affordable
Interested individuals can apply for a scholarship, group admission and flexible payment option. ‘We wanted to make such high-cost courses affordable and accessible through the power of the internet. A 2-month physical course would cost around BDT 30-40k, now would only cost a fraction of that.’ – said Sharmin Easha, Senior Manager, Light of Hope Ltd.
